The B8 Passat comes as a four-door sedan and a five-door Variant wagon, with petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid (GTE) powertrains. The February 2019 facelift brought updated styling and lighting, new safety features and an updated engine line-up. The Alltrack wagon arrived in Australia and New Zealand in early 2016 with 25 mm more ground clearance (174 mm), body cladding and 4MOTION all-wheel drive across the range.

Radio and dash: The facelift introduced the MIB3 infotainment system and updated graphics on the instrument cluster. The Alltrack has an off-road mode in its driving mode selector.

Trim levels: Alltrack is the standout wagon trim for Australia. A Passat R-Line was marketed in 2015 but discontinued shortly after.
