The second-generation Tiguan went on sale in Australia in September 2016. The long-wheelbase Tiguan Allspace followed in July 2018 with seating for up to seven. The updated Tiguan was released on 30 June 2020 alongside the Tiguan R (320 PS, 420 N·m) and the Tiguan eHybrid.

Radio and dash: The 2020 facelift has a redesigned centre dashboard with a new touchscreen running VW's MIB3 software, plus a digital steering wheel.

Trim levels: Allspace launched in Comfortline and Highline, with the R-Line package also offered. The short-wheelbase Tiguan ran Trendline, Comfortline and Highline, with Sportline added in December 2017 and limited Wolfsburg (500 units) and R-Line (1,000 units) editions in late 2018 and 2019.
