The XC40 was unveiled on 21 September 2017 and won Carsales Car of the Year in 2018. A Recharge plug-in hybrid arrived in 2019 and the fully electric version in 2020, later renamed EX40. The facelift for the 2023 model year brought new headlights, bumpers and a new driver assist sensor platform. It won Drive Car of the Year, Best Small Luxury SUV, four years running from 2021 to 2024.

Radio and dash: The facelift added Android Automotive for the mild hybrid models.
