The second generation Alphard went on sale in May 2008, previewed by the FT-MV concept, and was the first to be twinned with the Vellfire, which carried split headlight and taillight styling and sold through Netz dealers rather than Toyopet. A facelift was announced on 27 September 2011 and went on sale in Japan from 1 November 2011, adding hybrid variants of both models.
